An Oldie from 2016
In which I write about year end stuff

Writing again, yet still without an interesting topic. I need a better word than surreal. I read that one already. So let's say that 2016 was interesting on many fronts. I'm guessing that if you dropped a c note a year ago on the Cubs winning the World Series you might have made some money there. I'm also guessing that (if they took wagers on politics) betting on Trump to win would have had some serious odds against as well. Now couple that with the odds of me taking in a sixth cat, and, well, OK that one was kind of a given. I'm lucky it's only six. I'm really lucky that I'm only a little bit allergic.
The presents went well tonight. Lots of Lego's for the kid, and her own laptop. I guess for her generation, a laptop might as well be a steam engine. She seems happy to have it though. My last one lasted 10 to 12 years (still works, just slow and old, like me). If this one (Mom got one, I got one, Kid got one) lasts as long, then we are good through high school. I just couldn't get used to typing with a virtual keyboard, and always being tied to the iPad. I think a laptop, even a cheap one, symbolizes something for me that it no longer really represents. To me, it is the coolest. Mobile computing anywhere, anytime. Really, that is ubiquitous now, but is still only special in my head.
My hope is to avoid a lot of the dead time I usually end up with in front of the TV. Not watching my shows, mind you, but watching Nickelodeon or Disney. Aaaargh. OK if it was all Spongebob it might be OK, but it is not.
